The year was 1975. It began with two very enthusiastic young women who had a dream: to develop a dog training school that would serve the needs of as many dog owners as possible. The dream developed slowly.
The school was called "Blue Springs Dog Training Center", after the kennel name of the founders' Shetland Sheepdog show breeding concern. The first location was a former warehouse on Rio Grande, right next to the railroad tracks, just North of Belleview Avenue in Littleton, Colorado. The duo put up dry wall, and with the help from friends and some paint, a dreary, dark, dirty building was turned into a bright, light blue and white training center. This color scheme is still being used.
During the late 70s, four trainers taught classes two mornings and evenings each week. Over the next decade, more trainers and days were added to the Center schedule. We now have a staff of 25 trainers and offer classes every day of the week. To adapt to the increasing demand, the training center had several locations between 1975 and 1984.
Our present location at 2980 W. Oxford Avenue has been home to "Blue Springs 'n Katydid Dog Training Center, Inc." since 1989. It was at this time "Katydid" was added to the name for the school. Now the Corporation carries the kennel names of both owners.

I have taken several series of classes with Blue Springs and have found them professional and very helpful with the novice dog owner. They offer a wide variety and levels of classes.
I never knew I would learn so much about training my puppy. I've had dogs all my life and this is the first time I decided to get one of them trained. Well they don't just help you train your dogs they train the owner. The experience was wonderful and would highly recommend Blue Springs n Katydid to everyone.
They have the best methods of training your pets. They will adapt the training to the dogs and they fully explain the procedures. The classes are fun and the instructors do not put you down when learning. They have a class for everything you want to do with your dog. If they don't they know who to contact to help you.
This is a full service training center. The instructors are knowledgeable. Classes start with very young puppies at Kindergarten level. Each class level adds behaviors appropriate to the age of the canine companion. Agility, rally and free-style dancing is also available. Discounts available in the course level progression. A very cheerful bright and clean traininng facility.
They have excellent trainers, a nice facility and a large range of classes - more than other training facilities in Denver. They even offer drop-in classes to allow the dogs to practice what they've learned. And their price is competitive.
Wonderful instructors! One of the few places where you can start off with basic puppy manners and then head for any goal you desire, whether Canine Good Citizen, Obedience, Rally, Agility.
Over the course of better than 20 years I have had four dogs in obedience training. Instructors were great, instruction right on my needs and well worth the cost for value. Great place to train your dogs.
BSKD has been around for many years and has a positive outlook on dog training that focuses on the relationship between pets and their owners establishing a lasting connection with your dog. They believe that training is the most important part of fostering a healthy bond between owner and pet.
I have been training with them about 30 years and they have a great group of diverse trainers. This give me a chance to work thru any problems I am having in training.
