Canto do Galo Capoeira Group was formed in the mid 90's by Greg Flickinger (a.k.a. Mestre Galo) in Boulder, Colorado. Mestre Galo began his training with Joe Williams (Contra-mestre Avestruz) in Sante-Fe, N.M. some time before. Avestruz was an early North American student of Bira Almeida (Mestre Acordeon) in the Bay Area.
Canto do Galo is honored to be a member of the Berkley, CA-based group, known as the United Capoeira Association (M. Acordeon, M.Ra, M.Suelli), participating in its regional batizados, Brazil trips, etc.
Approximately 60 men and women carry on the on-going classes, rotating Beginner's Series and public presentations in the Denver area at local schools and festivals, as well as at their new studio at 910 Santa Fe on the first Friday of every month.
capoeira is so beautiful, an amazing art compared to other martial arts. other arts enforce discipline and repetition, but capoeira encourages fun and playfulness ...which is why we call it a game and not a fight! no wonder everyone is always smiling at Canto do Galo!
Capoeira is one of the finest all around practices one could engage in and Canto do Galo creates an excellent atmosphere for exploring all that Capoeira has to offer.
Capoeira has changed my life forever. There are so many more advantages to doing it other than the physical rewards. I would not be the person I am today nor have traveled outside the U.S.A. if I didn't have such a monumental figure in my life as my teacher and the community of friends that are there.
Far and away the most welcoming, most entertaining, most challenging environment to learn in- Capoeira is amazing, and Canto do Galo represents it's full spectrum so well.
