House of Commons

Category: Bakery (48 listings)

An oasis of calm in a busy world, we provide a taste of England with our delicious pastries, cookies and cakes and over thirty of the finest teas available anywhere. Indulge in a true English scone with real Double Devon Cream, fruit-filled jam or our own mouthwatering lemon curd. Take time to savor the tradition of afternoon tea, to celebrate a special occasion, or to introduce a little of the special into an ordinary day. Stop by to have lunch and choose from our wide range of freshly made sandwiches, salads, quiche or soup of the day - all made with care using the best ingredients available. The House of Commons opened in February 2005 and is located on Platte Street just north of 15th in lower downtown Denver. A short stroll from the Platte River, The House of Commons takes its name from nearby Commons Park and its inspiration from the tearooms of London. All food is prepared fresh on the premises with soup, sandwiches, salads, pastries and tea also available to be taken home if desired. The tea selection is varied with over thirty varieties from which to choose and each is available for purchase by the ounce. Many of the teas are imported from England and are blended by Taylors of Harrogate in the beautiful county of Yorkshire, England. Taylors is a family owned company that was established in 1886 and is world renowned for producing exceptional teas. The House of Commons is a lovely place to hold showers or special parties, and catering is available for events outside the tearoom.

They are one of my favorite tea houses in the area, and make wonderful scones! I've yet to have a sip of bad tea there, and I've been more times I can count. Casual and inviting, I always feel welcome there. Plus, it's one of the few tea places in the area where you'll see men under 70 :)

We've been going to the House of Commons for several years now and have NEVER had a bad meal. We've introduced several friends and family, and it has become their favorite too. The scones are superb, the flour-less chocolate cake is wonderful, the gingersnaps are perfection. In fact, everything is great. And, their salads, sandwiches, soups, and quiche are as good as their pastries and scones. We travel from south of Cherry Creek Dam at least twice a week just for afternoon tea, and it's worth it.
